+ Add at the bottom of Properties is how a layer grows an ability it did not start with. Each row becomes a section in the panel. Removing a section with × turns the ability off; most keep their numbers so adding them again continues where you left off. Effects is the exception: removing the section deletes the stack.
This is the same catalog + Add in Properties reads. The right-click Add submenu shows these rows in groups, then Mesh here, Light here and the Rig actions — those drop something at the pointer; they are not sections.
01Every ability
| Ability | Hint in the menu | Who can add it | Guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Layout Grid | Column / row guides to align to | Group, Artboard | Layout & Cascade |
| Layout | Auto-arrange children | Group, Artboard | Layout & Cascade |
| Cascade | Stagger children in sequence | Group, Artboard | Layout & Cascade |
| Blend | Mix with layers behind | Every 2D layer | Styling, masks & blend |
| Drop Shadow | Offset, blur, color | Every 2D layer | Styling, masks & blend |
| Layer Blur | Blur the layer itself (soft glow) | Every 2D layer | Styling, masks & blend |
| Background Blur | Blur what is behind (glass) | Every 2D layer | Styling, masks & blend |
| Virtual Repeat | Virtual copies — no extra layers | Every 2D layer | Virtual Repeat |
| Data Repeater | Print from a list — each copy is a row | Every layer | Data Repeater |
| Input | Visitor can type | Text | Fields |
| Slider | You draw the track and the knob. Play slides it; the number is an output | Rectangle, Ellipse, Group | Fields |
| Toggle | You draw the switch. Play clicks it; on/off is an output | Rectangle, Ellipse, Group | Fields |
| Choice | A dropdown. Options can be typed, or come from the same list a Repeater prints | Rectangle, Ellipse, Group, Text | Fields |
| Motion Pose | Simple From → To move on hover / click — each copy on its own | Every layer | Motion Pose |
| Physics Body | Gravity, bounce, static ground, drag — on a shape inside the page. Runs in Play / Simulate. | Every 2D layer except an artboard | Physics |
| Physics World | World gravity for this artboard | Artboard | Physics |
| Physics Body (3D) | Gravity, bounce, grab and throw — on a mesh in the Scene3D. Runs in Play / Simulate. | A mesh that is a direct child of a Scene3D | 3D Physics |
| Physics World (3D) | World gravity for this Scene3D (XYZ, down is +Y) | Scene3D | 3D Physics |
| Cloth | Hang a plane — pin, drape, collide, grab and pull. Play / Simulate only. | A Plane that is a direct child of a Scene3D | 3D Physics |
| Custom Cursor | Replace the pointer | Artboard | Custom cursor |
| Effects | Blur, glitch, color stack | Every 2D layer, and every Effect Layer already has the section | The effect stack |
| Mask | Clip with another layer | Every 2D layer | Styling, masks & blend |
| Scroll Participation | Parallax, pin, hold | Every 2D layer | Scroll participation, sections & snaps |
| States | Named states & transitions | Artboard, Group | States |
| Interactions | Click, hover, scroll → action | Every layer | Interactions |
| Clones | Visual copies — grid, ring, spiral, effects | A 3D mesh or a model (not 3D text; not a skinned model) | Clones |
| Field | Cursor pushes / pulls / twists the mesh | A 3D mesh | Field |
A layer takes only one of Input, Slider, Toggle and Choice; once it has one, the others are not offered.
Every 2D layer means shapes, text, image, video, map, group, artboard, path, bone, instance, effect layer — not a 3D mesh or a 3D light. Those have their own Material and Light sections instead of blend, shadow, effects and mask.
02What you get
- A new section in Properties, named exactly as the menu row.
- The ability is on as soon as you add it — Layout starts arranging, Drop Shadow starts drawing, Motion Pose captures From.
- Search in + Add matches the name, the hint, and everyday words (grid, hover, *json*…).
- With the Properties panel set to Design, + Add offers only the design abilities — layout, look, repeat. Interactions, States, Motion Pose, Physics, Scroll Participation, Custom Cursor and the four controls appear when you switch the panel to Motion, or when you search for them.
The right-click Add menu groups the same rows (Look, Motion, Repeat, Layout, Interact), lists the rest after them, and then two extra groups — 3D and Rig — that are not abilities; they drop something at the pointer:
| Action | Hint | When it is available | Guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh here | Drop a cube at the pointer | A 3D scene, or a mesh / light inside one, is selected | Scenes & the camera |
| Light here | Drop a point light at the pointer | Same | Lights & environment |
| Bone here | Drop a bone at the pointer — or press B and drag to draw | Always | Bones & deform |
| Bone (chain from here) | Child of the selected bone — builds a chain | A bone is selected | same |
| Join bones into chain | Parents them in selection order — first picked becomes the root | Two or more bones selected | same |
| Attach to nearest bone | The layer keeps its spot but now follows the bone | A non-bone is selected and a bone exists | same |
| Detach from bone | Leaves the rig — keeps its current position | The selected layer is attached to a bone | same |
Greyed rows say Not for this layer type or Already on this layer. They stay in the menu so the list does not jump.
Interactions also appear as the Sentences tab. Adding Interactions from + Add is the same rules; most people open Sentences instead.
