Motion Pose

A simple From → To move that plays on hover or click — From is always where the layer is now.

A Motion Pose is a short tween from wherever the layer is right now (From) to a look you set (To). A sentence fires it: hover, click, press. It is not a sequence and it does not live on the timeline.

From is not a saved snapshot. If the layer later moves — layout, scroll, a repeater copy — To still starts from that new place.

01Adding a pose

Two doors:

  • Pick a recipe in + Interaction — Lift on hover, Grow on hover, Shrink on press. The recipe writes the sentence and turns Motion Pose on.
  • Or add Motion Pose from + Add on the layer, then write a sentence whose verb is Motion Pose.

The card has two jobs. When at the top writes or opens the sentence. To below is the change — X, Y, Z, scale, rotate.

The Motion Pose card: When, Preview, To fields with X Y Z

02To

Relative (on by default) treats To as a change from now: position is Δ, scale is ×.

Above everything (To) draws the layer — or that one repeater copy — on top while it is in To, then puts it back.

One at a time is for a repeater or Virtual Repeat. Click one copy and it plays To; the copy that was open plays From and goes home.

Focus can also slide the layer toward a center. X and Y on To still apply — they are the extra offset after that slide. Z is always there (depth / pop).

FocusWhat happens
NoneThe layer stays where To says
Parent centerIt also moves toward the middle of its parent, then X / Y
Stage centerIt also moves toward the middle of the artboard it is in, then X / Y

Duration and Easing are the tween.

Preview plays To from the current place. Reset puts it back to where it was when To started.

Stage center uses the artboard the layer belongs to — the one that owns it in the tree, or the one its position sits inside. X and Y after that slide are in that artboard's coordinates. A layer on the canvas outside every artboard uses the document (world) coordinates instead. Stage center is not the browser window. In play mode, if you play that same artboard, they match. On a tall scrolled page the card flies to the artboard middle — pin or a scroll section if you need the viewport middle.

03A grid card to the middle

This is the pose this card is for. One card in a grid grows and sits in the centre; the others stay. Click another and the first goes home.

  1. Draw the card. Add Virtual Repeat (or Data Repeater) and set a grid.
  2. + Add › Motion Pose on that same layer.
  3. When › Click toggle.
  4. Focus › Stage center. Relative on. Scale × 1.2 (or more). Z if you want it to pop.
  5. Above everything (To) on — the open card draws on top of the grid.
  6. One at a time on — only one card is open.
  7. Enter play and click a copy.

From is each copy's own slot, so a corner card and a centre card both travel from their cell.

04What it is for

Use a pose when the motion is one beat: here → there, then back. Not a film.

You wantPose
A grid or gallery card that grows into the middleFocus › Stage center · One at a time · Click toggle
A button that lifts on hoverHover in / out · Scale × 1.06 · a little Y Δ up
A press that shrinksWhen Press → To, Press End → From · Scale × 0.94
A tile that pops above its neighboursAbove everything · Z · hover or click
A cursor that grows over a hit targetPose on the cursor layer; see Custom cursor
A row of repeated icons, each reacting alonePose on the repeated layer — no One at a time

Do not use a pose when the motion has several keys, a curve you must edit, or a flag. That is a sequence.

05Repeaters

Put the pose on a single layer — one object moves.

Put it on a layer with Virtual Repeat or Data Repeater — each copy has its own pose. Hover or click one copy; the others stay put unless One at a time is on.

06The sentence

The pose does nothing until a sentence fires it. On the card, When is that sentence:

  • Hover in / out writes Hover → To and Hover End → From, then opens Sentences.
  • Click toggle writes Click → Toggle.
  • Custom in Sentences… opens the Sentences tab so you can use Press, a signal, scroll — any trigger.

If the pose is already wired, the row shows chips such as Hover → To. Click one to jump to that sentence.

The verb is Motion Pose. The sentence names which pose to go to: To, From, or Toggle. Duration on the action overrides the pose default.

07With keyframes

A pose and a sequence can share a layer. The pose is a one-shot offset on top of whatever the timeline is doing at that moment. If both fight over the same channel (Scale, Y…), the pose wins while it is playing, then the timeline takes over again.

A custom cursor that grows over a button is a pose on the cursor layer; see Custom cursor.

08In 3D

A pose works on a 3D mesh too — Relative X/Y/Z, Rotate and Scale move it for real. Focus and Above everything are 2D-canvas ideas and stay hidden on a 3D layer.

Clicked photo (3D gallery) is a separate Focus option that appears only on a mesh with Clones → Gallery photos. Pick it and the card's To/From grid disappears — this pose does one thing: To brings the clicked (or hovered) photo forward, From puts every photo back. Scale and Lift for the focused photo live on the Gallery block, not on this card; Duration and Easing here are the pose's.

Wire it the same way as any other pose:

  • Click toggle — click a photo to focus it; click the same one again to put it back. Clicking a different photo always jumps to that one — a gallery never toggles the wrong card off.
  • Hover in / out — the photo under the pointer comes forward while hovered.

The + Click to focus (Motion Pose) button on the Gallery block sets this up in one click.
