Fields

Native boxes the visitor types into — search, forms, toggles — bound to a variable or a list path. Sliders are drawn in the scene, not as browser chrome.

A Field is a native control that sits on a layer in Play, Preview and the player. The visitor types, picks, or toggles; the value writes into a named output (a variable). Pick that output under Controls in any value picker — a Stream, a sentence value, a property bind.

01Slider (you draw it)

A slider is not a browser range control. You draw the track and the knob; Play only slides the knob and writes a number.

Draw a rectangle (the track) — or a group that already contains a smaller child (the knob). Properties › + Add › Slider. If there is no small child, Lab spawns a round thumb you can restyle: fill, stroke, size, corners, shadow.

RowWhat it does
OutputThe name other layers pick (Volume, Mix). Live value sits beside it
AxisX left–right, Y up–down
Min / MaxDefault 0–1 so opacity and mix need no remap
ThumbWhich child slides. Pick another layer if you drew your own knob

In Play, drag the track or the knob. The knob stays inside the track box. On another layer: Sentences → Stream (∿) → Controls → Slider · Volume → the property (Opacity, Rotation…). Map Range if 0–1 is the wrong span.

02Toggle (you draw it)

A toggle is not a browser checkbox. You draw the switch; Play clicks it and writes on/off.

Draw a rectangle (or ellipse / group). Properties › + Add › Toggle. A smaller child, if you already drew one, becomes the knob and snaps to the ends. Leave Knob → None if the drawing itself is the switch.

RowWhat it does
OutputThe name other layers pick (Power, Mute). Live on/off sits beside it
AxisX / Y — where the knob jumps when there is one
KnobOptional child that sits at the off or on end

In Play, click the switch. On another layer: Sentences → Stream (∿) → Controls → Toggle · Power → Hidden, or a fill, or anything that can read a value.

03Choice (dropdown)

A choice is a dropdown on the layer you drew. Play opens it; the visitor picks one option; that value is the output.

Draw a rectangle (or ellipse / group / text). Properties › + Add › Choice.

RowWhat it does
OutputThe picked value (City, Size). Live pick sits beside it
OptionsType — one option per line. List — the same table a Repeater prints
PathList only — items, or view:Featured (a named View)
Label / ValueList only — what they see vs what is written (name / id). Empty Label guesses name
EmptyHint when nothing is picked yet

Unique values are kept — a Products list with category as Label becomes a category picker, not one row per product.

The Repeater still prints cards. Point it at a View whose filter is category equals {$City} (the Choice output). Typing options is for a short fixed list; a live catalog uses List.

In Play, the dropdown sits on the layer box. Controls → Choice · City in any value picker.

04Other inputs

Select a Text layer. Properties › + Add › Input (Visitor can type).

RowWhat it does
KindText, textarea, email, number, password, file
OutputSame idea as Slider — a variable (usual) or a list path
PlaceholderHint inside the box
ChoicesChoice only — one option per line
Min / MaxNumber

A Field without a bind is not allowed — adding one creates a variable from the layer name (Search → Search, or q). Esc blurs the field; a second Esc leaves Play.

05Sentences

WhenFires
Field InputEach key / change
Field SubmitEnter (not in textarea)
Field BlurThe box lost focus

On a Slider or Toggle layer, + Interaction opens with a Control group: a rule on the control's own output, ready for its first step. A Toggle called Power offers Power Becomes true (0→1), Power Becomes false (1→0), Power While true and Power Changes; a Slider offers Changes. They are On Variable rules — see Streams & variables.

Binding already writes on every input, so a headline { $q } follows as they type. Pair a search Field with a View whose filter is name contains {$q}.

06Overlay (compose, no new ability)

A modal is still a group: a dim rectangle + States Open / Closed + setHidden + Esc / click-outside sentences. There is no Overlay capability in this version.
