Stylize effects

Pixelate, Tile, Dither, Posterize, Datamosh blocks, Glass, Pixel sort, Metaball, ASCII, Halftone, Engraving, CRT screen, VHS, Film grain, Glitch.

The fifteen effects in the Stylize group of the catalog, in the order the catalog lists them. Each entry gives the parameters as the card shows them, with their range and default; parameters behind ▸ Advanced are in a second table. Effects with a Speed row also have a clock — Timeline / Free run / Static — on The effect stack.

Motion: Timeline / Free run / Static.

Before / after: CRT screen on the sample image

08VHS

Tracking noise, soft chroma and a little vertical shake. Has a clock.

Use it for: a tape that has been copied too many times, a found-footage plate.

ParameterRange · defaultWhat it changes
Amount0 – 4 · 1How heavy the tape look is
Speed0 – 5 · 0.5Cycles per second

Advanced

ParameterRange · defaultWhat it changes
Mix0 – 1 · 1Blend between the original and the full effect

Motion: Timeline / Free run / Static.

Before / after: VHS on the sample image

09Film grain

A fine, moving grain over the picture. Has a clock.

Use it for: sitting a digital still next to real footage, taking the plastic off a 3D render.

ParameterRange · defaultWhat it changes
Amount0 – 1 · 0.12How visible the grain is
Speed0 – 5 · 0.5Cycles per second; at 0 the grain freezes

Advanced

ParameterRange · defaultWhat it changes
Mix0 – 1 · 1Blend between the original and the full effect

Motion: Timeline / Free run / Static.

Before / after: Film grain on the sample image

10Glitch

Horizontal slices that jump and split. Has a clock.

Use it for: a broken title, a hacked terminal, a beat hit.

ParameterRange · defaultWhat it changes
Amount0 – 0.3 · 0.03How far the slices jump
Rows2 – 80 · 10How many slices
Speed0 – 5 · 0.5Cycles per second

Advanced

ParameterRange · defaultWhat it changes

Motion: Timeline / Free run / Static.

Before / after: Glitch on the sample image

11Datamosh blocks

The picture breaks into shifting blocks, like a video that lost its keyframes. Has a clock.

Tintcolor · #ffffffColor mixed into the glass
Tint amount0 – 1 · 0How much of that tint

Glass needs something behind it. On a layer with no backdrop it has nothing to bend — put it on an Effect Layer, or over a filled group. See Effects on a layer vs the Effect Layer.
